Long-term care

It is a sad statistic that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 65 will need some form of specialist residential care during their lifetime.

Providing long term care can be a serious financial burden on those requiring care and sometimes on their families and relatives too.

The NHS & Community Care Act 1990 was introduced in 1993 meaning that local authorities became responsible for funding long term care. Therefore today, the long term care system is needs and means tested.

In England and Wales, those with assets in excess of £23,250 (2019/20) have to pay their own care costs, which can be very expensive and can deplete long term savings or mean that a family home may have to be sold.

Niche work closely with care providers and solicitors in and around Newport and Cardiff, as well as across the country, to provide specialist advice on all aspects of care fees planning and funding long term residential care.

If you are concerned about the cost of funding long term care, our advisers will explain all of your options and help you to make the right decisions.
